You be the judge. Talk about San Francisco values and perversity.
After all the hectoring, abusive and assaultive behavior, and the well-schemed plan to ambush the Olympics torch relay runners at the 6 mile route of the relay in San Francisco's leg of the journey, the China bashers led by the "Team Tibet-Shangri-La-Dalai Lama" are again yelling victimization by the mayor and police chief of San Francisco.
This time, it is not China and its security forces accused of abusing their human rights. It is the San Francisco mayor and police chief :-):-)
Laugh Out Loud (LOL). The latest rallying cry is now: "San Francisco violated our rights of protest !"
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has weighed in on behalf of "Team Tibet Shangri-La-Dalai Lama" is reportedly poised to challenge the last minute change in the torch route.
The basis of this specious and ridiculous claim is that there is a city sunshine ordinance which requires our San Francisco mayor to fully disclose to the general public details of a public event in order to ensure the rights of dissenters and protesters to exercise their "First Amendment Rights" (sic) of free speech. And free speech means also free protest.
There are plans afoot by the ultra-liberal legal team of the American Civil Liberties Union to now pursue a full and robust hearing before the legislative body of San Francisco, i.e. the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and the city's police commission.
And of course, Chris Daly, our San Francisco supervisor, also now known as "Chris Dalai," honorary son of the his Holliness, the Dalai Lama, is planning these hearings to continue to demagogue and amplify his righteous causes, except cleaning San Francisco's city's streets and minding the city's fiscal budget, at the precipice of a budgetary disaster of major proportion.
The menu of the day, or "menu de dia," (in Spanish), is "Why weren't the Anti-China protesters allowed the opportunity to produce their "publicity stunts" to attack and villify the world Olympics torch ?"
And more, "Why weren't the Western and American news media, with their cameras and slew of production crews, from CNN, NBC, Fox, CBC, Radio Canada, and a host of European film crews, who already set up their production scripts at the original relay route, with their pre-set "protest and riot lenses," be given the opportunity to film, amplify, produce, direct, and circulate this "Hollywood" narrative for the "Tibet-Shangrila" cause ?"
First Amendment rights ? Free speech rights ?
As a Chinese-American attorney based in San Francisco, talk about Western and American values ! Talk about our increasingly perverted application of the laws.
Anything for publicity, sensationalist Hollywood-style. Even to the point of amplifying a publicity stunt by three white "nutheads" who attempted to scale the Golden Gate Bridge to do a high profile publicity stunt, just to unfold a banner, in the name of protest.
For Pete's sake, can't these nuts just do it with high-tech graphics such as that Steven Spielberg, the well-known Hollywood film mogul, is so adept and creative in doing ?
By the way, no Western nor American news media cameras ever filmed the horrific traffic gridlock caused by these three "nuts." And I bet you that they don't even know where Tibet is in an Asian map. Or any more about Tibet other than what Richard Gere, the Hollywood actor, tells them.
That's America for you. Anything for publicity to dramatise any cause at all costs.
Welcome to San Francisco. Next to Hollywood, our city by the bay is known as a hub for crackpots, crackheads, and crackers. (The three "Cs"). What ever happened to the other "C" word, i.e. civility. Or how about "courtesy"?
And I am in the middle of this perversity.
And many of us who wanted to welcome the Olympics torch, including an old Chinese immigrant lady in her nineties, a former actress in Shanghai, can't even access Ground Zero of the welcoming ceremonies site because she was worried that she may end up being stampeded.
After what happened in Paris with a torch runner on a wheelchair near the Eiffel Tower being assaulted by a vicious "Team Tibet" protester, i.e. Paralympic athlete Jin Jing, I would not blame her.
Civil liberties ? American Civil Liberties ? Freedom to "mau mau" at will ? Even to the point of abusing, threatening to attack the torch runners, such as a paralympic on wheelchair in Paris ? and scaring the wits out of old ladies ?
And now threatening to sue under the much vaunted rights of the American Constitution.
Gimme a break. Perversity. Shame. and Down with Western warped values.
The Chinese peoples inside and outside China can do better. They must do better. And they don't need the Western and American news media to write the script, prepare the set, direct the narrative under their sensationaist "protest lenses."
We huarens overseas must call the West for it. Please, no more stunts. This is the real world we have. With all the conflicts and man's humanity against inhumanity all over the world, let's do the real thing - clean up our own house; look inside locally within our own society.
And please. Learn about China before you hector, scream, and demonize the Chinese peoples. Visit the country, by all means. And don't bring your baggage declaring "The White Man's Burden."
