TIBET through Chinese Eyes

Here is a think-piece about China and Tibet, by Peter Hessler "Tibet Through Chinese Eyes" published at the Athlantic Magazine. It provides a more balanced view through the lenses of an American who has immersed himself in China and attempted to reach out and learn about the complexity of Tibet within China's 55 ethnic minority groups under One China.

The author demonstrate a different perspective free of the stridency of the China bashing and demonization leitmotif that we see in much of the American mainstream news media , which is now amplifying, orchestrating and directing through the smokescreen of a "free press" the "Team Tibet Shangri-la" narrative.

The biases and distortions in much of the Western English-language news media have twisted and portrayed a China which is not the China and people I know, and have come to respect.

China and its people deserve to modernize, to seek its own path, and be allowed to deal with its enormous domestic issues and problems with respectful dialogue from the West on their deficiencies and further through a spirit of constructive criticism and assistance, as they take its rightful place as responsible stakeholders in the world.

As the article below shows, even though I may not completely agree with Mr. Hessler's "points," I respect his views because they are articulated in a respectful and balanced manner, without malice, something I have not seen much of lately in much of the mainstream Western news media, especially from the New York Times.
