A Different Perspective - the Grasslands Conflict in Tibet from a Japanese Journalist

The following report from Yoichi Shimatsu, a media studies lecturer at Tsinghua University in Beijing and former editor of the Japan Times Weekly in Tokyo., was published at the New America Media, a consortia of ethnic and racial minority news media breaking out to get their voices heard in the mainstream American news media.

The analysis of Mr. Shimatsu is noteworthy, particularly on the tensions and "range wars" which erupted between native Tibetan herdsmen and the Hui Muslims who are perceived to have "interloped" upon the grasslands.

What is ignored and not reported in the Western and especially American mainstream news media is that the Hui Muslims in Llasa were the first victims of the riots which ensued.
