George Koo, a board member of the New American Media, and an international business consultant with expertise on U.S.-China relations, who has written numerous "think-pieces" about China, and U.S.-China relations, weighs in on his opinion about the torch relay protests "dogging" the World Olympics torch to Beijing from London, Paris, and San Francisco.
Mr. Koo wrote, with regard to the use of the torch relay as a "platform" to bash China, amplified by the Western, media:
"Now that the torch is in the developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region, the Western media is not going to follow the torch relay in the developing countries with the same vigor as it had in London, Paris and San Francisco. In the absence of a willing media, protesters would not have the platform to seize the limelight via public disturbances. As a result, they will stay home."
Mr. Koo's commentary was published at the Sunday edition of Silicon-Valley based SAN JOSE MERCURY NEW, "Opinion Section." April 20, 2008.
