A Canadian who's "Got it" about China and agrees that the Western news media is often biased about China and Chinese society - " Keep an Open Mind"

My fellow blogger, Kenny Lee, a Chinese-American from Sacramento, California, the state capitol, like me, in my Spatium Trienti, Latin words for "Third Space,"is also fighting equally hard, with guts and heart to break the blockade imposed by the mainstream news media on any "counter-narrative" which gives a more rational perspective about China and its society and people.

His blogs, linked to mine, must be read by those who would like to read "the other view" apart from the "protest prisms" imposed by many mainstream American news media.

Like me, Kenny Lee is focused on fighting against the mindless, irrational and often hate-filled bashing in the Western world, especially within America against China, and the demonizing of the Chinese people. We see and feel the irrationality of it all.

We have both observed the stridency in talk radio and TV media, of rogues and shock jocks like CNN's Jack Cafferty, the likes of which harks back to the 1870s during economic bad times after the Gold Rush in California's mother lodes ended, unleashing the clamor against Chinese immigrants.

Remember the slogan, " The Chinaman must go !" "The Chinaman must go !" ?

Deja vu ? Again, confronted with bad times ahead within America, the attacks and stereotypical broadbrushing about "shoddy Chinese goods, poison products, junk, filth, slease, garbage and dog eaters" and all those "goons" from the land of Celestials, those slit-eyed "Fu Manchus" amplified by Hollywood movies, thanks of our white boys in tinseltown, are reverberating in this Great Society we call America. America the Beautiful. Home of the Brave and the Free - free to be dumb, ignorant, parochial, and narrowminded and embued with a sense of hubris and cultural arrogance.

"America -- Love it or Leave it !" We often hear the protesters scream at us Chinese who support our Chinese here and over there.

Like the white unionists from the "American" Workingman's party, we are seeing the connection between China-bashing over there, and "Chinaman lynching" over here, especially in California. And in San Francisco, especially liberal San Francisco, as was before in the previous century and a half, has become the vortex of another ugly racist and racialistic anti-Chinese and anti-celestial hysteria.

Before it was Kearny, the Irish rogue of the "American Workingman's Party,", i.e. apple pie, "Love America or leave it " type rabble-rouser who can't stand the Chinaman in California's midst because of economic competition at the bottom of the economic food chain.

This time, it is Chris Daly, aka "Chris Dalai," the San Francisco reincarnate of his Holliness, the Dalai Lama, in all of his white bad boy's broggadoccio, in scrapping, brauler style, screaming "Alarm and Protest" indignation over China's alleged human rights abuses, hectoring and screaming "Bloody Coca Cola" to mau mau and dog the Olympics torch relay, and telling "Team Tibet Shangri-la" that his ultra-left and regressive "white brigades" of professional "mau mau" protesters will lie down to stop the torch relay runners on April 9, 2008, in the name of "San Francisco values."

Remember the 1870s, on the lead-up to the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, along the same passion and taking up the cause that California must be Euro, instead of those pig-tailed Chinese horde invading San Francisco.

Well, click on a Canadian who's "got it." Thanks to Kenny Lee's flagging this amazingly rational video from a Canadian who just spoke from his heart, and kept an open mind about China and its people.

I salute white folks like him. Alors, from Canada, there is some flicker of hope about the West. God bless Canadian Molson, a better beer than American beer. Cheerio, "Johnny Six Pack" and "Soccer Jane Mom." The Cannucks are definitely less strident and much more civil and civilized.
