As the Olympics torch solidly lands in Chinese soil on its domestric trek through Chinese territory on its way to Beijing, the strident hectoring and screaming from TEAM TIBET-SHANGRI-LA is fast fading away in the non-Western world, consisting of 5.6 peoples relative to the WEST's 900 million Europeans, North Americans, and Aussies.
Other than the amplification and relentless "massage" being orchestrated by the biased and mostly Anglo and European news media, CNN, BBC, MSNBC, NYT, et al, the news from the non-Western media provides a completely different picture and snapshot of the impact of the Western tailwind to push for the cause of TIBET and support of the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama is obviously a Hollywood celebrity, but outside in the non-Western world, is he really that popular ?
The Mau Mau accompanying the Olympics torch through London, Paris, San Francisco, and Canbrerra have shot its wad, and nowhere has it achieved the "hoped-for" results inside China, not only with respect to China's governing officials, and especially among the ordinary masses of Chinese peoples.
So far, much of the noise from TEAM TIBET SHANGRI-LA is deriving from exile young Tibetans with their Western hippie friends and Green friends, maniacally and fanatically worshipful of their living Buddha, his Holiness, "The Dalai Lama." It is a cult following, based on a "cult of personality" because many White folks are alienated from their own spiritually vapid society, and trying to achieve "Nirvana" in an illusionary "Shangri-La" to which they associate TIBET with, naively and stupidly.
That said, TEAM TIBET-SHANGRI-LA completely miscalculated and misassessed the real situation on the ground, i.e. the stiffening of position, and worse, the complete "turn-off" and alienation by ordinary Chinese citizens, inside and outside of China, against the crude, uncivil, and rude bashing accompanying TEAM TIBET-SHANGRI-LA protests. The tip demarcating the "turning point" was San Francisco, Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi country, who can't fill her city's potholes yet out there demogoguing it with her grandstanding with the Dalai Lama.
The North American relay stop in boorish and vulgar San Francisco provided the ludricruous narrative so offensive to any but almost all "Non-Western" senses that many in the Non-Western world simply saw hubris, rudeness, hypocricy from a biased American and Western press clearly calculating and machinating to amplify the cause of the Dalai Lama through its "protest" biased lenses.
The blogosphere simply reacted and responded negatively against this "piling."
At this time, the game for the Dalai Lama is almost all but lost. He can't talk credibly about the "A" word, i.e. Autonomy, while from behind his flank, his young exile Tibetans, almost all born out of Tibet, completely westernized, and losing their "Tibetan-ness," talk the "I" word, i.e. Independence.
His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, can't talk "non violence," and "autonomy" while graphic images of the violent confrontation from Tibetan youths from the Tibetan Youth Congress, an exile group, was the "armed spearhead of the 14th Dalai Lama group" dedicated to separating Tibet from China, with their violent confrontational tactics accompanying the torch.
This has turned many Chinese, inside and outside the overseas Chinese Diasporic community, off.
What is particularly offensive, which the Tibetan youths behind TEAM TIBET SHANGRI-LA had failed to recognize, is that the white Western fanatics behind their cause, from Europe, North America and Australasia, suffused with "The White Man's Burden," have run ahead of the game, antagonizing the non-Western world of 5.6 billion non-Europeans, non-Americans, non-Canadians, and non-Aussies, as plain bullies, white supremacists, and imperialistic hegemons.
That Dalai Lama talks democracy, as if the Western concept of it, in terms of "liberal democracy" - Western style, is the model for TIBET, all the more grates most Asians and non-Westerners, because of the utter hypocrisy of it all.
As of this writing, the news from Shenzhen is that Beijing officials have concluded their first round of talks with the personal representatives of the Dalai Lama.
I am not optimistic that the talks will succeed in pacifying the increasing stiffness of the Chinese peoples who are not only pushing their own government to stiffen up their resistence to Western pressures, but to fight back against Western hegemony in the lead-up to the Beijing Olympics Games.
This weekend, I made a point of watching the cascade of propaganda films being spade out by the Western news media, from American public TV's showing of "Dreaming Tibet," the 2004 film embellishing the exile Tibetan community in Dharamsala.

With the exception perhaps of "Dreaming Llhasa," which has some artistic redeeming social value in terms of the poignant erosion of Tibetan values among the exile younger generation of Westernized exile Tibetans in the West and in India, the rest, all produced by White people, are just pure "propaganda" films, garbage, as usual, similar to those Shangri-la narratives produced from Hollywood, with the same perversity as "Seven Days of Tibet" starrting Bratt Pitts.
Why is it that white people have to hog it on TIBET? Why can't Westerners and White people simply leave the Tibetans alone to engage in dialogue in good faith with China's government ?
Why do Westerners and especially white Americans want to muck things up by getting ahead, with their misguided, misplaced notion of the "White Man's Burden."
Tibet is China's business. Not Western business.
And to the West, the admonition is "Butt Out."
Let the Tibetans do the talking. Not you Western buttheads.
