愚公移山 The parable of the old man who moved a mountain - all Chinese must learn from the Old Man 愚公移山 !

In this Annus Horriblis for China and its people, this ancient country and civilization, the cradle of Confucian culture and the philosophy of humanism, enduring and deeply ingrained among 1.3 billion people inside and over 60 million outside of China, in the overseas Diaspora, feel the pain and agony of what happened in Sichuan and the big catastrophe.

We also feel the pain of the peoples of Myanmar, and the devastation of that cyclone wreaking havoc and horrific devastation in a swath of destruction across Asia.

Don't despair, all descendants of the Yellow Emperor.

We will overcome. From Spatium Trientis, I applaud the kind gesture expressed by all the governments and countries which have stood by the Chinese in this time of pain and sorrow.

In particular, we should note the gestures from the Honorary Chairman of the KMT Party across the Taiwan Straits, i.e. that of Lien Chan, the statesman who has stepped up to the plate to reach out and make the Nixonian leap to make the peace across the Taiwan Straits. Similarly, James Soong, the leader of Taiwan's People First Party, has made a well-taken gesture, befitting of a Confucian "gentleman" of refinement:

We shall overcome, like the Old Man who Moved a Mountain, 愚公 Yu Gong.

Let the spirit of 愚公移山 guide all of us.

China will rise up again. It is the will of all the Chinese peoples.
