Something is going awry in America today.
The spate of unprecedented violence seen and reported of late in the form of mass killings, family killings, cop killings.... all inexplicable heinous rage killings evidences a society imploding from within.
Whether it was in Binghamton, New York, involving a 42-year old Chinese-Vietnamese immigrant who went amuck and took 13 lives with him, in a fit of rage; or whether it was in San Francisco Bay Area when an Indian high-tech engineer went on a killing spree targeting his own family and that of his in-laws; or whether it is in Los Angeles involving a Latino man over the Christmas holidays targeting his estranged ex-wife's family in a pique..... these are emblematic of a systemic breakdown far more serious than the economic meltdown unleashed by rampant looting, plundering by Wall Street bankers.
Consider the latest tragedy of an immigrant from Vietnam, an ethnic Chinese, who was catapulted to the notoriety of mass killer... that of Jiverly Vuong, aka Jiverly Wong. The Binghamton, NY mass killing involving an Asian immigrant from Vietnam shocks the consicence. But there is more to it. It is more than the proliferation of guns and lack of gun control in America. America used to be a land of opportunity for new immigrants from all over the world.
But lately, there appears to be a social pathology which has set in and contaminated the social fabric of this once Great Society.
The immigrant "American Dream," for many, has unfortunately turned and became the "American Nightmare."
And there are deeper roots to this social pathology that is being fully explored.
The thing to ponder is: "WHY?"
"What's causing some immigrants to America to become so alienated, disillusioned, and enraged that they are resorting to utter desperate acts of killings others ?"
"WHY?"
It is totally counter-productive for the police chief of Billingham, New York, to tag the gunman, Jiverly Vuong, "a coward" without going behind the root cause of this act of "going amuck."
